Many people think that once an ISK application is submitted, it's done and forgotten. In reality, this is one of the most common reasons for issues during inspections.
Why an ISK Application Isn't an Archive
The Information System for Chemicals (ISK) is a dynamic system. Inspectors regularly review it and compare the data with the actual state of your company – safety data sheets, product composition, labeling.
If you submitted an ISK application before 2023, it is very likely non-compliant and outdated today. During this period, Regulation (EU) No. 2020/878 came into effect, which changed the structure of safety data sheets and required the inclusion of new mandatory information.
When is Updating the ISK Application Mandatory?
The regulation on reporting data for chemicals states that the ISK application must be updated with every change to the safety data sheet. Certain changes, such as a change in trade name or increased health hazards, require immediate updates. Other changes can be reported to ISK once a year, no later than March 31st for the previous year.
What Are the Risks of Not Doing This?
Unmanaged ISK applications mean non-compliance with legislation. An inspector will find the discrepancy, and you will have to explain – or act under the pressure of a deadline.
