Last Sunday, I wrote to you about the requirements prescribed for advertising chemicals in online stores.
However, there are additional requirements for advertising and online selling of biocides.
If biocides are classified as hazardous chemicals or have at least one EUH label, their online sale is subject to the same rules as the sale of "classic" chemicals. Before purchasing online, the consumer must be aware of the types of hazards the biocide presents.
However, there are also additional rules for advertising biocides:
- every advertisement must include the name of the biocide and information about its purpose,
- every ad must contain the following text in one of the official languages:
"Before using the biocide, read the label and usage instructions. Use the biocide safely."
- the appearance and content of the advertisement must not mislead the user about the risks the biocide poses to human, animal, or environmental health, nor about its effectiveness,
- the ad must not contain statements like: "low-risk biocidal product," "non-toxic," "harmless," or similar labels,
- the words "biocidal product" or "biocide" in the ad can be replaced with words indicating the type of biocide (e.g., insecticide, etc.).
By including all the mentioned information, you will fulfill legal obligations and ensure adequate consumer information and protection.
If you're unsure how to identify a biocide, this video can help. It lasts a little over 5 minutes, but it will surely clear up any doubts.
If you still have questions about presenting a biocidal product on a website in compliance with regulations, we can help you.
