ADR Training: Who Needs It (and Who Doesn't)?

In accordance with the Act on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and ADR, all employees in Slovenia involved in the transport of dangerous goods must be properly trained.

Persons involved in the road transport of dangerous goods must attend training that corresponds to their responsibilities and duties. These requirements apply to:

·       staff employed by a road carrier or sender,

·       staff loading or unloading dangerous goods,

·       staff at freight forwarders handling transshipment, and

·       drivers of dangerous goods who do not have an ADR certificate.

Training is conducted by safety advisors. We conduct basic and refresher training, which must primarily cover changes in regulations.

ADR changes every 2 years, so refresher training is usually required every 2 years.

Safety advisors do not train ADR drivers. They must attend training conducted by accredited companies that issue ADR certificates for drivers.

Let me share with you the content of the training I conduct as a safety advisor for numerous companies:

·       What are the duties of individual participants in the transport of dangerous goods?

·       What are the tasks of a safety advisor?

·       When is a product classified as dangerous goods for transport?

·       What types of dangerous goods do we know?

·       In what packaging must dangerous goods be packed and how must the packaging be labeled?

·       What documentation must accompany the transport of dangerous goods?

·       How must vehicles be marked and equipped?

·       How must the load be secured against movement?

·       What exceptions and reliefs can be used in the transport of dangerous goods?

·       Who supervises the transport of dangerous goods and what are the penalties for violations?

After the theoretical part of the training, a written knowledge test follows. Based on the correctly completed test, I issue a certificate of competence to the training participants.
