Have you ever wondered where exactly the UFI code for your hazardous chemicals should be listed?
This is a question many manufacturers and suppliers of chemicals ask themselves, so today we are explaining the basic requirements.
For products used by general or professional users, the rule is clear - the UFI code must be listed on the product label. You can also include the UFI code in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), but simply listing the UFI code in the SDS does not meet the legal requirements.
Slightly different rules apply to products intended for industrial use. For these products, you have more flexibility, as you can list the UFI code exclusively in the SDS. In this case, listing the UFI code on the label is not mandatory.
So, if your products contain the UFI code only on the label, you are legally compliant. It is only important to note the difference between products for general/professional use, where the UFI code must be listed on the label, and those for industrial use.
For industrial use, suppliers have several options (all of which are legally permitted):
- Adding the UFI code only on the label.
- Adding the UFI code only in the SDS.
- Adding the UFI code on the label and in the SDS (most recommended).
