The expected change to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (“CLP regulation”) has been published today in the official journal of EU. You can find this change here.
There are many changes, and some points are more clarified in comparison to the existing CLP.
I will state the most important sections that this change affects and then we will analyse each in new blog posts.
Most important changes concern:
- Minimum dimensions of labels and pictograms and minimum font size
- Text characteristics on the label
- Fold out-labels
- Updating information on labels
- Digital labelling of chemicals
- Advertisement of chemicals
- Distance sales of chemicals
- Supply of chemicals via refill stations
- Duty holders for Poison Centre Notifications – distributers’ role clarified.
Different dates of application apply - the earliest date of application is 1 July 2026. There is enough time to adapt, but out advice as always is – do not put off with the required changes for your product until the last moment and risk fines and removal of the products from market.
