As if the PCN compliance landscape wasn't complex enough, chemical companies now have to contend with an additional challenge: the growing divide between EU and UK regulations.

Ever since Brexit, there's been an increasing divergence in the rules governing everything from mandatory classifications to safety data sheets. And when it comes to Poison Centre Notifications, the differences are particularly pronounced.

For starters, Great Britain and Northern Ireland now have separate notification portals - so you can't just lump them together under one strategy.

You'll need to manage each market individually, tracking the unique requirements and deadlines. And that's on top of maintaining compliance in the rest of the European Union.

The implications of this regulatory split are significant.

You'll have to dedicate valuable resources to monitoring changes on both sides of the Channel, building specialized expertise, and potentially even registering products separately. It's a lot to juggle, especially for smaller organizations.

But burying your head in the sand isn't an option.

Failing to adapt to these new realities could lead to serious supply chain disruptions, market access issues, and brand reputation damage. The companies that thrive will be the ones that take a proactive, strategic approach to this evolving landscape.

That might mean establishing a dedicated EU compliance team. Or partnering with a team of regulatory experts who can keep you ahead of the curve. Whatever path you choose, the key is to start planning now - don't wait until the last minute to get your house in order.

Because when it comes to chemical regulations, the only constant is change. The sooner you embrace that, the better positioned your business will be to navigate the choppy waters ahead.
