A common question we get is: “What additional cost would be involved if our production partner generated UFI codes for identical products sold under different brand names?”
The answer depends on the level of information sharing between you and your production partner. Here’s a breakdown of your options:
- Unified Notification with Shared UFIs/Trade Names
If both parties are comfortable sharing all trade names and UFIs, these can be included in a single Poison Centre Notification (PCN). This means that everything will be visible within the same dossier and appear on the ECHA Submission Portal. For identical products, this is the simplest and most cost-effective approach. - Separate Notifications for Confidentiality
However, if either party has concerns about revealing other UFIs or trade names—for example, to maintain business confidentiality—a separate PCN will be required. In this case, each unique PCN submission incurs a full price.
In summary:
- If you’re willing to share all UFIs and trade names, a single PCN submitted under the manufacturer’s dossier is often best.
- If confidentiality is a priority, separate PCNs allow you to keep your UFIs and trade names private but come at an additional cost.
