As expected, the work programme for the systematic examination of all existing biocidal active substances in the European Union has been extended until 31 December 2030.
The full text of the regulation can be found here - COMMISSION DELEGATED REGULATION (EU) 2024/1398 of 14 March 2024 amending Regulation (EU) No 528/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards a further extension of the duration of the work programme for the systematic examination of all existing biocidal active substances.
The reason for the extension is stated in the regulation “Considering that the work programme will not be finalised by 31 December 2024, it is necessary to extend its duration. After discussion with experts of the Member States’ competent authorities on biocidal products, the Commission deems it appropriate to extend the duration of the work programme.”
This means, there is more time until all the existing active substances from the review programme to get reviewed and approved or not approved for specific product types (PTs).
Basically, this means your window of opportunity of placing biocides on the market containing these active substances for these product types, has been greatly extended –from 31 December 2024 until 31 December 2030 – depending on when the specific active substance will actually get approved or not approved for use in biocides.
