If you followed my blog posts then you know labelling packaging material should be mandatory in Slovenia from 1.1.2022 onward.
We have now received confirmation of what has been said unofficially for some time. That is to deviate from that intention.
In the Official Gazette of RS no. 208/21 of 30.12.2021, the Regulation amending the Regulation on packaging and packaging waste was published.
I can summarize the essence in one sentence, namely, the labelling of packaging with the type of packaging in Slovenia is again voluntary.
The new Regulation states:
“In order to facilitate the collection, reuse and recovery of packaging waste, including its recycling, the manufacturer of the packaging or the packer on the packaging may indicate the types of packaging materials used.”
Let’s have a look at how this was worded in the old regulation, so you can see the essential difference:
“In order to facilitate the collection, reuse and recovery, including recycling, the manufacturer of the packaging or the packer must indicate on the packaging the types of packaging materials used.”
From what has been written above, it is clear how important a single word in a regulation is. We eagerly awaited this concrete change of the word from “must” to “may” last year. The confirmation came on the penultimate day of last year.
