The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) just published the revised guidance on efficacy of biocidal products on its web page (Guidance on the Biocidal Products Regulation, Volume II Efficacy - Assessment and Evaluation (Parts B+C), Version 4.0).
The direct link to the document can be found here.
Who is this guidance for?
First audience is obvious - it's meant for competent authorities. And on the other hand this document will have a significant effect on formulators. Especially ones developing new biocidal products and are planning to register them and where the goal is to place these products on the market (or just use them as biocidal products).
This guidance specifies how and which efficacy tests need to be carried out in order to prove the efficacy of biocidal products.
What is new in the guidance?
Apart from few cosmetic updates, e.g. List of Abbreviations, the main change is the added Section 5.6.5 for biocidal product type 19 - PT19 repellents and attractants.
If you would like to register biocidal products such as mosquito repellents, you now have new recommendations and demands on how to perform efficacy testing of such products.
