The second thoughts of the chemical industry have apparently convinced the European Commission to consider postponing the UFI and PCN deadline.

The Commission has released a memorandum, suggesting a postponement of the deadline for enforcement of provisions of Annex VIII of Regulation 1272/2008 EC (CLP) from 1.1.2020 to 1.1.2021. This would mean that the deadline for implementing UFI and PCN for hazardous mixtures for consumer use would be January 2021 instead of January 2020.

The suggestion was made after deliberations between European Commission, representatives of the chemical industry and the member states' competent authorities that took place in the beginning of July.

It has to be noted that this is, for now, a recommendation, and not yet an official decision. The official decision will presumably be made and published in September this year.

Because an official decision has not yet been made, and there exists a chance it will not take place or be changed, the deadline for implementation of PCN and UFI for consumer use hazardous mixtures remains 1.1.2020 for now.

Our advice is to take this news into consideration, but continue preparing for the 1.1.2020 deadline as no offical conclusions have yet been made.
